This policy is designed to protect both Lala Cabs and our valued customers/drivers/partners while complying with Kenyan laws. 

All rentals are subject to a signed Rental Agreement.

1. General Provisions

• Company: Lala Cabs (hereinafter "the Company")
• Effective Date: January 2023
• All rentals are governed by Kenyan law.
• The Company reserves the right to refuse any rental without giving reasons.
• Vehicles are provided for lawful personal, corporate, tourism, or business use only.

2. Eligibility Requirements

For Self-Drive Rentals:

• Minimum age: 25 years (some premium vehicles require 30 +)
• Valid Kenyan driving license (Class BCE or equivalent) held for at least 2 years
• Foreign Driver’s License held for at least 2 years
• An International Driving Permit (IDP) may be  required for non-Kenyan licenses
• Valid national ID/passport
• Clean driving record (may require verification)

For Chauffeured / Corporate / Taxi Services:

• Professional drivers provided by Lala Cabs (NTSA licensed, vetted, and insured)
• Clients must be 18+ or accompanied by an adult

3. Rental Periods & Rates

• Rental day = 24 hours from pickup to drop-off
• Minimum rental: 1 day (24 hours)
• Rates include: Comprehensive insurance (with excess), 24/7 roadside assistance.
• Rates exclude: Fuel, tolls, parking fees, VAT, traffic fines, extra driver fees
• Long-term/corporate discounts available upon negotiation

4. Payment & Deposit Policy

• Full payment required at booking confirmation (M-Pesa, bank transfer, card)Held via card authorization or cash

5. Vehicle Use Restrictions

The Renter/Driver shall NOT:

• Use the vehicle for racing, rallies, off-road (unless 4x4 specified), or towing
• Carry passengers for hire/reward (unless licensed taxi/chauffeured service)
• Overload the vehicle beyond manufacturer limits
• Drive under the influence of alcohol/drugs
• Sub-rent or transfer the vehicle without written consent
• Cross international borders without prior written approval
• Use on unsealed roads (except approved 4x4 vehicles)

6. Fuel Policy

• Vehicles are provided with either  a full tank or an empty tank.
• Must be returned at the same fuel level.

7. Insurance & Liability

• All vehicles carry comprehensive insurance
• Standard excess (deductible): KSh 30,000 – 150,000 (varies by vehicle)
• Renter is fully liable for:
  • Damage due to negligence, misuse, or prohibited use
  • Theft if keys/vehicle left unsecured
  • Fines, penalties, or third-party claims arising from traffic violations
• Additional excess reduction options available at extra cost

8. Maintenance & Roadside Assistance

• Vehicles are serviced & roadworthy at handover
• Renter is responsible for checking oil, water, and tyres during rental
• 24/7 roadside assistance included
• Mechanical breakdown not caused by misuse: repaired at Company cost
• Tyre/windscreen damage: Renter liable (unless additional cover purchased)

9. Damage, Accidents & Theft

• Report any incident to the company first and then the police within 1 hour
• Renter liable for excess + any uninsured losses
• Failure to report = full liability for all costs

10. Return Policy

• Return vehicle clean (interior & exterior) at agreed location/time
• Late return: KSh 1,000–3,000 per hour + full additional day charge
• Early return: No refund for unused days (unless pre-agreed)

11. Prohibited Activities

• Transport of illegal goods, hazardous materials
• Use in any unlawful activity
• Driving on restricted roads (e.g., certain national parks without permit)

12. Termination & Cancellation

Cancellation by Customer:

• More than 48 hours: Full refund less 10% admin fee
• 24–48 hours: 50% refund
• Less than 24 hours: No refund

Company Right to Terminate:

• Immediate termination for breach of policy
• No refund; full liability for costs incurred

13. Dispute Resolution

• Any disputes shall be resolved amicably first
• Failing that, subject to arbitration under Kenyan law
